So I stumbled across a new plug in for WordPress which creates a Theme for iPhone, iPod and other handheld devices, and it seems pretty cute.

WPTouch  by Brave New Code is quite the plug in and I am testing it out on this site, with an eye towards putting it on Canadian Personal Finance in the future (after all one of the functions of this site is as a test site for new ideas and concepts). The theme is Adsense ready so that is mighty cool as well, but right now I haven’t tried to customize it very much either, so I have much to read and learn about using this cool new plug in.

So far, I rate it as a Must Get if you are using WordPress and you want more iPod and iPhone readers. Not sure how I advertise this capability yet, but we shall see, stay tuned.

So I have got some good feedback so far about my posting for help yesterday and I have made some small changes on Canadian Financial Opinions to reflect that:

  • Less crap at the top of the page, the Financial Web Ring has moved to the bottom of the page again.
  • Shortened the number of postings from 14 days to 7 days.
  • Changed the colour of my subscription icon so it stands out a little more (that was easy to do)
  • Shrunk the size of the Canadian Blog Roll so that it didn’t make my side bar seem miles long.

I need to investigate a 3 column new blogger format, I think. I tried it on my test blog site Canadian Financial Opinions Test but I need to fix the formatting a little, because it doesn’t deal with bullets and lists very well.

I also need to figure out how best to monetize that site. I have a bunch of stuff but nothing much working (I have one dedicated advertiser who has paid me nicely for the year, but Adsense isn’t paying much as are most other things). Monetization is important, I think, and I want to make money online that is for sure.

I have also started fiddling around with Myspace, mostly to learn more about CSS and that kind of stuff. What is funny I have managed to connect to my favorite groups Myspace site and their keyboardists! Interesting world!

So in this experimental CSS layout that I use, the links were completely invisible in my postings, which I think is a very bad thing. Say if I was trying to point a reader to a book that I want them to read, if it does not stand out on the page, how do they know I want them to click on something? A good example would be This book here as a link, if I didn’t have my links set up on my CSS as a different colour from my regular stuff, how would you know to click there?

I have taken a bunch of books out about how to fiddle with the Style Sheets for web sites, so expect more commentary on this type of stuff.
