As my site has drawn more readership lately, it has also attracted more SPAM comments. These comments are mostly crap, some are funny, but it is annoying too (since I have to at least look at the SPAM list to see if AKISMET has set some genuine comments as SPAM).
The AKISMET graphic shows how the volume has increased markedly over the past few months. In June, I had only a few a day, but now I am getting Hundreds a day, and the volume does not seem to be dropping.
I think I’ll need to look closer into a more automated spam removal system, or I may introduce some kind of Comment validation technique to slow the spammers down a little.
Spam Comments FAQ
What is Spam?
A delicious (some say) processed meat in a can. The computer world has seconded its meaning to mean something unwanted that was sent, like emails and comments.
What is a Spam Comment?
A comment, usually from a Bot (i.e. software driven) to redirect readers to go look at content. Usually, this content is malware or, worse, phishing sites.
